Air duct sizing

Air duct sizing

Developed which very easily allows the sizing of the air ducts (quadrangular and circular) starting from the cubic meters (or cubic feet) of the rooms and the flow rate of the air to be distributed. Calculations possible in both the international system and the Imperial (British) system

The sizing of air ducts is one of the most critical aspects in the design and installation of air conditioning and ventilation systems. Correct sizing of the ducts not only guarantees adequate air flow to meet the thermal and ventilation needs of a building or system, but also contributes to energy efficiency and occupant comfort.

The reason for this program

This program was conceived and designed by Itieffe to offer a quick and practical overview of the sizing of air ducts. We will explore the fundamentals and calculation methodologies used to determine the appropriate dimensions of the ducts, taking into account important variables such as the volume of air required, the volumetry of the rooms and other critical factors.

Sizing of air ducts is crucial for HVAC engineers, system designers, installers and all those involved in the design and installation of air distribution systems. Careful duct design helps ensure proper airflow, temperature and humidity control, as well as reduced operating costs.

With this program, we will provide practical instructions on how to calculate air duct dimensions based on your specific application needs. We will walk you through the formulas and calculation tools needed to determine channel diameter or cross sections quickly, efficiently and effectively.

We are happy to accompany you on this rapid learning path, which will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully tackle what you are looking for. Mastering this skill is critical to ensuring the proper functioning of HVAC systems, contributing to the comfort and health of occupants and the sustainability of built environments.

Air duct sizing

Fast method for sizing the air channels

Elaborate which allows the sizing of the air ducts (quadrangular and circular) with extreme ease starting from the cubic meters (or cubic feet) of the rooms and the air flow rate to be distributed.

Calculations possible both in the international system and in the Imperial system (British)

Instructions

Let's analyze the program

1 - give name to every single room.

2 - choose which unit of measurement we want to proceed with the calculations (meters or feet) - meters.

3 - enter the dimensions of each individual room.

4 - insert the air flow unity of previously chosen measurement – 3.000 m³/h.

5 - enter the speed that the air must have in the ductwork - 3 m / s.

6 - let's insert the measures of the obligatory sides of the quadrangular canalization starting from the main one and then continue with the detachments modulating the same according to the personal choice.

7 - we can now read all the results of the dimensions of the square ducts.

8 - automatically calculates the theoretical section of the equivalent circular channels

9 - the normalized measurements of the circular ducts are indicated on the basis of the choice of the unit of measurement of the dimensions (meters or feet) of point 2.

in the case of circular ducts, from the automatically calculated theoretical measurements, make the most appropriate choice in the normalized measurements: for example if theoretical = 190 mm, the real one to be considered will be 200 mm.

Easy right?

good job
